Sleep & Insomnia
When sleep becomes a struggle night after night, it affects everything from mood to memory. Insomnia isn't just about not sleeping it's about your brain and body not getting the rest they need to function.
What it is
Insomnia isn't just trouble falling asleep. It includes difficulty staying asleep, waking up too early, or feeling unrefreshed even after a full night's rest. When this pattern continues for weeks, it affects everything.
In Pakistan, sleep problems are often attributed to "too much chai" or stress at work. But chronic insomnia involves changes in how the brain regulates sleep-wake cycles, and it often needs specific treatment.
What it looks like in real life
"I lie in bed for hours staring at the ceiling, my mind won't shut off."
"I fall asleep fine but wake up at 3am and can't go back."
"I'm exhausted all day but the moment my head hits the pillow, I'm wide awake."
Raat ko neend nahi aati, subah kaam karne ka dil nahi karta.
Over time, sleep deprivation leads to irritability, difficulty concentrating, weakened immunity, and can worsen anxiety and depression. It becomes a cycle that's hard to break without help.
What it is not
Insomnia isn't laziness, and it's not something you can fix by just "trying harder to sleep." Counting sheep doesn't work because the underlying issue is often hyperarousal your nervous system being stuck in alert mode when it should be winding down.
What treatment involves
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) is the first-line treatment and is highly effective. It addresses the thoughts and behaviours that keep you awake, without relying on long-term medication.
We also assess for underlying causes like anxiety, depression, or sleep apnea that may be contributing. Treatment is tailored to your specific pattern of sleep difficulty.
When to seek help now
If you've been struggling with sleep for more than a few weeks, if it's affecting your daily functioning, or if you're relying on sleeping pills to get through the night it's time to seek help. Good sleep is not a luxury it's a necessity.
The hardest step is the first one. Most of our patients tell us afterwards that they waited too long. You do not need a referral, a diagnosis, or the right words. You only need to call.
