Anxiety
Anxiety is more than feeling stressed. It's a persistent worry that doesn't go away when the situation changes, often accompanied by physical symptoms like a racing heart, tight chest, or trouble breathing.
What it is
Anxiety is your body's alarm system going off when there's no real danger. It can show up as constant worry, physical tension, racing thoughts, or difficulty concentrating sometimes all at once.
In Pakistan, anxiety is often dismissed as "overthinking" or "being too sensitive." But when it's interfering with your sleep, work, or relationships, it's no longer just stress it's something that deserves attention.
What it looks like in real life
"My chest tightens every time I think about going to work."
"I keep imagining the worst possible outcomes for everything."
"I can't stop checking if I locked the door, even though I know I did."
Mujhe hamesha kuch na kuch fikr rehti hai.
Some people experience panic attacks sudden waves of intense fear with heart palpitations, sweating, and feeling like they might die. Others live with a constant, low-level dread that never quite goes away.
What it is not
Anxiety isn't something you can simply "calm down" from. It's not a sign of weakness, and it's not just nervousness. It involves real changes in how the brain processes threat, and it responds well to treatment when addressed properly.
What treatment involves
We typically start by understanding your specific patterns of anxiety. Treatment usually involves CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), which helps you identify and change unhelpful thought patterns. In some cases, medication may be recommended particularly for panic disorder or generalized anxiety.
You don't need to commit to months of therapy to benefit. Many people feel a difference within a few sessions once they understand what's driving their anxiety.
When to seek help now
If anxiety is preventing you from functioning normally, if you're avoiding places or activities because of worry, or if you're experiencing panic attacks please reach out. Early support can prevent anxiety from becoming a chronic pattern.
The hardest step is the first one. Most of our patients tell us afterwards that they waited too long. You do not need a referral, a diagnosis, or the right words. You only need to call.
